#22: One Liners Worthy of Mention
The words of God are of little value if the power of God is not displayed in the life of the author.
The things we love the most, like friends and family, are, most often, the biggest distractions that keeps us from giving our all to God.
What people believe about themselves is the truth to them regardless if it is actually true or not. That is scary.
The Bible was written in a secret code. The only ones who will be able to decipher it correctly are those who . . . . Even that is of little value if that info is not put into action.
When Christianity, Christ, and the Bible, which should be synonymous – are put into the hands of religious, but ungodly, men and women, the result is religion of worthless passivity.
The term “ungodly” refers to anyone who lives in a manner where caring for themselves and their family, even concern about one’s spirituality, takes priority over all else.
Requests to God are unheard if one personally does not first do everything possible to make conditions favorable concerning that request.
The problems and joys of family life will steal one’s devotion from keeping one’s mind and life on Christ’s business.
What is the most tightly held secret in the mind of God? It cannot be known until it is experienced. The answer: to experience the power that Christ had over the physical. A modern term is “mind over matter.” To know what I just wrote does not reveal the secret. That secret is what Jesus unsuccessfully attempted to teach us. Because it seemed so unnatural; it violated all rules of physics.
A person is not fit to live if one is afraid to die.
Jesus was God’s greatest miracle. God’s second greatest miracle was to create physical freewill agents that have the potential to believe Him, with their lives, in the same manner as He believes.
The mind, mouth, and heart are prone to lie, but the life seldom lies.
The body is of little value except to nourish the brain with oxygen, blood and other nutrients so that the mind and body can function by sustaining the real person (the inner being) to express itself through the belief process.
In order to live as designed, our lives will always be at risk. If we cherish this physical life, we can never live life to the full.
I enjoy reading your articles, but I found that several of the items in article #22 seems to contradict what you had posted earlier and this leaves me confused.
You posted earlier that the greatest commandments was the expression of love towards God and to your fellow man.
But then you say that devotion to family is "the biggest distraction" that keeps us away from God.
I believe that that things that we love the most are a direct reflection of where our heart lies. Which is most important to a man To Serve or To Be Served? Those whose interests are self-centered are prideful and ungodly. Those whose interests are selffish reflect the godly attributes that Jesus taught in the Sermon on the Mount.
I was taught "that when you are in the service of your fellow man, you are really in the service of your God." We also define that to love our fellow man begins first with our immediate family and other close associates where God has given us a divine calling to provide for their spiritual and physical welfare. If we strive to make our home into "a piece of heaven on earth", then we will readily invite the holy spirit's companionship there to bless not only our lives, but also that of our loved ones. To me a righteous marriage is the most holy ordinance and gift from God and due diligence in teaching my children the ways of righteousness is the greatest gift I can offer.
The flip side interpretation of this is what drives the hermit and celibacy movements of certain religions. This isolates what are suppose to be the leaders and righteous examples from the community. It is based on concepts of ignoring your neighbor and family. The community is left to struggle. Independent Surverys (such as YouthAndReligion.org) have shown that the young generation has a very retention rate of participating in their parents religion. Whereas religious systems that emphasize love and godly service towards family and neighbors have a retention rate that is upto four times higher.
The number one mission of God is bring to souls to repentence and salvation, and the greatest service we provide to Him is when we help Him to accomplish this divine mission by striving to help ourselves and our neighbor to embrace the principles of His Gospel.
